This program provides individuals an opportunity to take a voluntary test that allows them to earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma. The exam consists of two sections: English-language arts and Mathematics. The English-language Arts section includes a Language subtest and a Reading subtest. Eligible persons who pass both sections of the CHSPE are awarded a Certificate of Proficiency by the California State Board of Education. The exam is given three times a year at testing centers throughout the state.
