The program serves infants and toddlers, birth to 36 months of age, whose progress is delayed in one or more of these areas:

  • Motor development
  • Language development
  • Social/emotional development
  • Cognitive (problem solving) development

To be eligible, the child must have delays at the 50% level in one area or demonstrate a delay of 25% in two or more of the above areas.

OR

The child has a disabling medical condition, or congenital syndrome, which has a great likelihood of requiring special education in the future.

Participants

The Infant Development programs serve students birth to three years. In a given month, staff members serve 287 students -- within a one-year period, over 550 students.

The Infant Development Program has 45 staff members. Program staff members are infant educators from diverse backgrounds in:

  • Special education
  • Nursing
  • Pediatric therapy
  • Language
  • Hearing
  • Vision

Services are located throughout Sacramento County. Referrals may be made by anyone, parent or professional. Call the Infant Program intake number at (916) 277-5900. Enrollment steps include:

  • Parent interview
  • Assessment by a trans-disciplinary team
  • Group development of an Individualized Family Service Plan

Partners

The Infant Development Program is part of the Sacramento County Office of Education, Special Education Department. Funding is provided through State and Federal monies; there is no charge to families for services. The IDP has contractual agreements with Alta California Regional Center, the WarmLine Family Resource Center, Early Head Start, and the California Department of Education.
